A brand, website and photography for a small bakery based in Cumberland, RI
Under The Willow Bakery is a family owned business based in Cumberland, RI who wanted a logo and website design that communicated their values and their services.
Michelle, a mother and wife, wanted to include her family in the bakery’s identity. She had one request: she wanted the logo to include an illustration of her children sitting underneath a willow tree. Willow trees are her favorite and she has fond memories of playing with her kids underneath huge willow trees.
The illustration is hand-drawn and imperfect which aids the storytelling of the brand. This a family-owned business, not a factory. Everything is hand-made and not everything will be perfect, and that’s the point.
The website’s narrative is told in the first person to make the customer feel as though they’re speaking directly to Michelle. The goal was to make the customer’s website experience as similar to their in-store experience as possible: friendly, quick and simple.
Because food is the product being sold, it’s important to populate the website with appealing and appetizing photos of the baked goods. As a result, I took photos of the food as they were in the bakery and used them throughout the website.
